Home Preparation Checklist

It is important for potential buyers to be able to focus on the key features and assets of your home. 

 

 

                    

Exterior of Home

  • Remove vehicles from the driveway.

  • Do not park directly in front of the house.

  • Roll-up or hide garden hoses and hide all garden tools.

  • Mow and rake yard and sweep driveway.

  • Edge driveway, pull weeds, and trim bushes.

  • Conceal all trash containers.

  • Vacuum/clean pool and pool area (if applicable).  Turn on the pumps for waterfalls/spillways.

  • Pressure wash exterior of the home.

 

Interior of Home (All Rooms)

  • Contain pets out of sight and remove pet bowls, toys, and litter boxes from rooms that will be photographed. 

  • Open window coverings to let in the natural light and neighborhood views.

  • Clean windows.

  • Turn on all lights.  Replace broken bulbs as necessary.  

  • Turn ceiling fans off.  

  • Put away newspapers and magazines. 

  • Dust all furniture, TV, and computer screens.

  • Vacuum carpets and wipe down hardwood floors.

  • Hide electrical cords and cables.

  • Hide remote controls and phone chargers.

  • Add flower arrangements/candles where appropriate.

  • De-clutter your home.

Kitchen

  • Remove photos, notes, and magnets from refrigerators. 

  • Remove everything from the sink.

  • Remove all you can from countertops (bread, dishes, food, hand towels, etc).

  • Sweep or mop kitchen floor.

  • Straighten stools and chairs.

  • Remove trashcan.

Dining Room/Eating Areas

  • Set tables with simple place settings.

  • Add centerpieces (flowers or candles).

  • Move excess chairs to another location that won’t be photographed.

Bedrooms

  • Make all beds and tidy up bedrooms.

  • Hide all clothes, hang them up nicely in the closets or stuff them under your bed.

  • Remove clutter from nightstands and dressers.

  • Stash all children’s toys.

Bathrooms

  • Remove all you can from countertops (toothpaste, combs, soap, toiletries, etc.).

  • Clean mirrors, glass, and all surfaces well.

  • Remove bottles and used soap from the shower and tub.

  • Remove waste baskets, toilet brushes, & plungers.

  • Toilet seats down. 

  • Remove rugs.
